What is a podcast?
Podcasting
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Podcasting is the distribution of audio or video files, such as radio programs or music videos, over the Internet using either RSS or Atom syndication for listening on mobile devices and personal computers. The term podcast, like "radio", can mean both the content and the method of delivery. Podcasters' websites also may offer direct download of their files, but the subscription feed of automatically delivered new content is what distinguishes a podcast from a simple download or real-time streaming (see below). Usually, the podcast features one type of "show" with new episodes either sporadically or at planned intervals such as daily, weekly, etc. In addition to this, there are podcast networks that feature multiple shows on the same feed. Podcasting's essence is about creating content (audio or video) for an audience that wants to listen when they want, where they want, and how they want.
Now for the low-tech version: A podcast is an audio program that you listen to on your iPod or other mp3 player, your pc, or you can burn it to a cd and take it along with you in your car if your car audio system supports mp3's. Podcasts are available on many subjects, but the only one you really need to be concerned with is quilting. Remember, we're trying to stay in touch with our passion here. You can listen to podcasts directly from this site, or have them delivered automatically by using a service such as iTunes to subscribe. You can download iTunes for free, and use it to listen to podcasts even if you don't have an iPod or other .mp3 player.
I don't have an mp3 player, can I still listen to Driven to Quilt?
Yes! You can listen to the podcast right on this site: just click the play button under the title of each podcast, or click "Play in Popup" so that you can continue to browse while listening. Clicking on the mp3 icon will either take you to a new browser page where you can listen to the podcast with Quicktime, or it will load Windows Media Player to play the Podcast.
When are new episodes of Driven to Quilt available?
New episodes are available bi-weekly on Mondays.
How do I subscribe?
You can subscribe to the Driven to Quilt Podcast through iTunes, or any other podcast listening software (called podcast clients or aggregators) that supports subscriptions.
Is it really free?
Yes! It's really free, there's no catch, and we don't even have to have your first born child, a credit card number, or your e-mail address. Free, free, totally free to one and all. It doesn't get any better than that!
